My Social Media Detox
If you noticed already from my absence, I haven't post anything since my last post back in January. Worry not, because my absence was because of my social media detox. Here I will share my social media detox journey on why and how I did it so keep reading!
Before I started on how I did my social media detox, let's start with why I did it. 2017 was ended on bad note for me and I struggled on reflecting and getting back on track. Even when I started to blog again, I still battled myself on how I should reorganize my life from the very basic: me. If people say that reorganizing things is tough, try to reorganize self. That's more difficult in my opinion and it takes not only huge effort but also time.
Time is precious and time is expensive. I get that a lot and in my 27 years old self, I have spent too much time trying to forgive myself on my failures. People thought I have gotten back on track when I had my major failure and to be honest I punished myself too hard that it was difficult to rebuild myself and move on. Nearly four years since then and I started to see a little light of hope. Four years spent on living like someone without purpose and now I finally find hope that I would find my purpose, at least life options.
Those four years spent I was living within social media, from blogging, to current social media like Twitter, Instagram YouTube and others. I plugged myself since 2008 yet the last four years I spent too much time doing so without making a move to my life offline. A life that a 27-year-old adult should have. I got so frustrated and I didn't dare to talk about it. I realized that if I talked about it, the very same speech would be replayed on my ears over and over again and the major failure would fill my brain and that very moment was my biggest regret. All the what ifs replayed and all I know I would cry myself every night and if I was left alone, I could even cry during the day.
So after excitedly posted a couple posts saying I would stick to my blog posts here, I decided to unplugged myself and just used my phone for messaging and most probably playing games. Here was the start of how I did my social media detox. I actually clear my apps which running in the background and kept myself company with just messaging app like WhatsApp and my games like Horse Haven: World Adventures and somehow made a discovery of a local game developer app, Own Coffee Shop. Of course in between I tried to read some books which still unfinished but I made progress on some books and also working out five times a week.
To be perfectly honest this social media detox helped me to reorganize myself a bit better than before. I can think clearly on what I want to do and when I discussed about it with my mom (who is now officially retiring from office work) she suggested to go back to school. There was doubt about it but thankfully I didn't throw the idea completely and now I have reserved a spot on an Open House held by one of the option I have and hopefully all goes well.
I know this isn't exactly a how to do social media detox post but this is why and how I did it. I'm pretty sure most influencers whether it was blogger, vlogger or even Instagrammers out there would have some social media detox to recenter self and that isn't something that exclusively should be done by them. Anyone who use social media can do this and it is something that I would recommend to do in this digital age where nearly everything is run on social media. Have you done social media detox? If so please share your how-to down below so others can take some of the process that suits them to do the detox. Have a nice day!
